(IEEE) promotes the engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge about electro- and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession. The IEEE is a catalyst for technological innovation and a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others. The IEEE is a not-for-profit association and has more than 350.000 individual members in 150 countries. Through its technical publishing, conferences and consensus-based standards activities, the IEEE produces 30 percent of the world's published literature in electrical engineering, computers and control technology; holds annually more than 300 major conferences and has more than 800 active standards with 700 under development. The IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP) is among the most prominent annual gatherings for international community of signal processing researchers and practitioners from industry, academia, and government. It encompasses scholarly and industrial technical presentations, exhibits, tutorials, panels, and social activities. The ICASSP2000 (Silver Anniversary), twenty-fifth in this series, will be held June 5-9, 2000 in Istanbul, Turkey. As part of the Silver Anniversary celebrations and the arrival of the new millennium, a cartoon contest and exhibition, plus humorous "scientific" presentations will be held during the ICASSP2000 conference. This activity is organized in collaboration with the Association of Cartoonists of Turkey. All cartoonists and humorist colleagues are invited to participate. Selected entries will be displayed in a special exhibition and published. Rules/Conditions: * The general theme of this competition will be "Humor in Science, Mathematics, Communications and Information Technology" with special emphasis on "Humor in Signal Processing." The contest is open to all colleagues and cartoonists with an interest in "Science and Technology." * Each participant may enter this contest with no more than five original entries. These art-works should not be previously awarded in any contest. The dimensions of cartoons should not exceed 30x40 cm. * Name, surname, address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail and country of origin of the participant should be written on the back of each work. Plus, a short CV of the humorist should be attached. * Deadline for submission is March 31, 2000 and submissions should be mailed to: Association of Cartoonists ICASSP2000 Cartoon Contest Alemdar Cd. Yerebatan Sarnici Cikisi 34410 Sultanahmet, Istanbul, Turkey * Submitted entries will be kept at the Cartoon and Humor Museum of Istanbul. * An international jury will make the selection of the works for awards and exhibition. * The results will be announced on June 5, 2000, during the Opening Ceremony of the ICASSP2000 Silver Anniversary Celebrations. * Special Prizes (Grand SurPrize, Three Honour SurPrizes, and other SurPrizes) will be given. * The exhibition will be held during ICASSP2000 and there will also be exhibitions in various cities in Turkey and abroad, plus in our web site: http://icassp2000.sdsu.edu/ * The selected cartoons will be published in a book and a CD.
